Recent past I came across Force.com IDE tool exception. It's actually network issue and nothing to do with Salesforce.
After installing eclipse and configuring Force.com IDE, I was trying to create a new Force.com project and got error "Unable to fetch organization details for <UserName>".
There can be different reasons for this and one of them is firewall settings. To pass through proxy server, one has to configure proxy settings. Once proxy setting are configured, eclipse bypasses the proxy and gets connected to internet.
Following are steps to configure proxy settings. Steps are almost same for all eclipse versions.

ReplyDeleteHi this is great help, however I am still having some issues, (it is an advancement from before doing this, as at least now it allows me to create a new force project without connecting to the server when before this option never show up)
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if the error is when i set up username, password on the network connections, I am using port 21 and host: www.salesforce.com
is there somewhere in sf that i can confirm the port is the right one?
Thanks
Hi Fabian, no, there are no such settings available in salesforce to confirm port.
DeleteHi Amit thank you for your prompt reply, so what will be your recommendation about this?
Deleteor do you think there is something else i am doing wrong?
Thanks
What do you mean by using 'host: www.salesforce.com'?
DeleteYou never need www.salesforce.com. It has to be either login.salesforce.com or test.salesforce.com
how can I determine the proxy server host and port number?
ReplyDeleteHey Alex where you able to find this information
Deletei am still not able to connect !
Dear Alex/Fabian,
DeleteYou can get host and port number from your network administrator.
Awesome Post ! Amit it worked for me ! Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Amit,
ReplyDeleteThis worked for me too. Thank you for posting intricate details.
how to find port and host???
ReplyDeleteI hope, it is resolved. Couldn't get back to you in time. Let me know if you are still facing issues. Basically proxy port number and host details are related to local network details for which your network team can help you.
DeleteHi Amit,
ReplyDeleteI tried the above solution but still the same problem.
Error message is "Unable to fetch organization details for xxxx@xxx"
"Invalid keystore format"
I'm the system administrator of my organization. How do I determine port number.
Kindly help me.
Thanks in advance

It worked like a charm. Thank you so much. This problem was driving me crazy. In my case, I did not have to do the step-5 as it was already having the required values.
ReplyDeleteNice to hear that..
DeleteThanks, this worked.
ReplyDeleteOne can locate the proxy host server and port number from their IE --> Internet options --> Connections --> LAN Settings --> Under Proxy Server --> Select 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' --> Click on Advanced button --> find the proxy server and port settings. Hope this helps.
Thanks Dude Amit!! It worked for me as well!!
ReplyDelete:) Welcome...
DeleteThanks it worked!!
ReplyDeletei tried this option but still getting error " unable to find valid certification path to requested target".
ReplyDeleteit worked!!! bravo!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about if we don't use Proxy server
ReplyDeleteThen your n/w should not have firewall restrictions to connect to internet. If you don't have proxy details then you can get them from your n/w admin team.
